• For the attention of Windows 98 and 98se and possibly ME users, some of the latest software has been created using windows XP which the file size of OLEAUT32.DLL is different to that of windows 98 etc.


  • Windows 98 - 98se OLEAUT32.DLL = 908kb


  • Windows XP OLEAUT32.DLL = 514kb


  • What happens if OLEAUT32.DLL belonging to XP gets copied to my systems folder.


  • Most programs will not run you will be greeted with an error message after rebooting.


  • What harm can this cause NONE


  • Can this be fixed YES very simple.


  • In the event this does happen and before you download and install any of the software it would be best that you download the windows 98 OLEAUT32.DLL unzip to a clean 1.44mb floppy.


  • After rebooting and find that OLEAUT32.DLL has been swapped just open your command prompt or restart in MS-DOS mode, place floppy in the drive type in A:\ once you see the A:\ prompt type in
    Copy A:\ space it C:\windows\system
    , you will then be asked to overwrite the exsisting OLEAUT32.DLL just hit Y.


  • Reboot and you will find everything back to normal.
